Volunteering Opportunities

Do you love wildlife?

Shasta Wildlife Rescue and Rehabilitation, Inc. (SWRR) needs your help to protect and care for the wild animals who play such an important role in our local ecosystems. Shasta Wildlife is always in need of hard-working, dedicated volunteers who love nature and the animals who comprise it, as volunteers make it possible for our organization to give so many sick, injured, and orphaned animals their second chance at a wild life. Read on to learn what it means to volunteer with SWRR and what types of exciting opportunities await.

Working with Wildlife

Each Spring, an average of 1,000 animals are brought into the Center by caring individuals and families. Many of these are baby birds for whom volunteers are always needed to provide comprehensive, on-site care. We require a serious commitment during the baby bird season (April through August). SWRR volunteers wanting to work with wildlife are required to begin their journey by working at our Center during our busy baby bird season. They need to arrive for their shifts on time and work a minimum of one shift per week (four hours) to provide sufficient care for the baby birds and injured wildlife convalescing at our Center. The work is highly rewarding and the experience is one which few people ever get a chance to have and which our volunteers never forget! Most of our volunteers start out doing animal care. This includes preparing food, feeding, and cleaning. As volunteers gain experience, they often take on further responsibilities including working with birds of prey, mammals, waterfowl, and other more labor-intensive species.

Tech team volunteers are tech savvy people interested in helping with our website, newsletters, photography (shooting and editing), graphic design, digitizing, and other work where you can share your knowledge and gain new experiences.
