Five Year Old Marley Helps SWRR
January 2015
A tradition in the Allan-Wadley family is for children to choose what they’d like for their birthdays. Five-year-old Marley chose to invite SWRR’s Ed Animal Team to present at her school. She parked a wagon at school to collect donations and raised over $150 in monetary contributions plus needed supplies.
In decades of wildlife educational programs, volunteer Patti Blasquez had never experienced anything to match this. When Miss Marley is old enough to volunteer at SWRR’s Center, she’ll be most welcomed!

SWRR Attends Earth Day
April 2015
SWRR attended the 2nd annual Shasta College Earth Day celebration with a booth and Kehwani the owl, one of our education animals. The program was sponsored by the Shasta College Foundation.

Grants & Funding

2015: SWRR received a $1,000 grant from the Scripps Howard Foundation for medical expenses. Thanks to Jessica Skropanic and Evelyn Peterson from the Record Searchlight for assistance.
2014: Two grants — $7,500 from the Animal Welfare Endowment Fund for food, and $1,000 from the Scripps Howard Foundation for medical expenses.
2011: $4,500 from CA Department of Fish and Wildlife for a new aviary, plus $8,300 from Redding Rancheria via the Shasta Regional Community Foundation for HVAC replacement.
New Hunting Aviary
Thanks to a grant from the California Department of Fish and Wildlife and generous community support, SWRR constructed a new hunting aviary. The addition eases overcrowding and provides a natural hunting environment for young birds of prey learning to hunt before release.

Special thanks to David Peppel Construction, Harry Peppel, Rich Wiker, Jim Pope, Meeks Lumber, Axner Excavating, and J.F. Shea Redding for their generous contributions.
County Fair First Place
2012
SWRR won first place at the Shasta District Fair for our display booth, including $100 in prize money for our wildlife rescue program. Credit goes to Lynda F. and Irish R. for design, plus Janet S., Vicky C., and Jenifer L. for setup.
